Playing Catch Up | Winston Salem Children’s Photographer

Whew, it has been a busy few weeks around here…and really it shows no sign up letting up any time soon!  I haven’t had a chance to share several little cuties I’ve photographed recently, so today I’m playing a bit of catch up.

The N family invited me to their gorgeous farm home and property for some photos of their family.  I was in heaven there and hope to get back there soon!

A family shot on their front porch…how wonderful would it be for this to hang big in their house!

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer03

I hadn’t seen Miss L since her three month session and she had all kinds of new tricks….sitting and babbling and being oh so cute!

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer05

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer06

The flower field image above is brought to you courtesy of “The Wheels on the Bus.”  Miss L. was pretty spent on photos by the time we made it to the field but she couldn’t resist me belting out her favorite song. :)

Miss M came to the studio for her six month session.  She was the first to try out my new green chair and I think she modeled it so well!

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer07

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer08

Mr. E has turned one!  He rocked his little tie t-shirt and we even managed the elusive sibling shot.  We won’t mention that within a minute of the shot E bit his sister P and she gave him a good swat in return.  Sounds just like the daily happenings at my house!

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer12

And finally, brothers E and M were so very cute together.  I was chatting with big brother E about Kindergarten and I asked him if he could read.  He looked right at me, sighed and said “Just barely.”  I fell over laughing…what a smart and adorable kid!

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer11

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer10

My current “fave shot.”  Do you see their little hands holding?  And those sweet expressions….perfect, brotherly love. :)

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer09

Thanks so much to those who responded to my call for a newborn model.  I can’t wait to meet some of those newbies soon!

Newborn Needed | Winston Salem Photographer

I am in need of a newborn model between 5 and 14 days old on Sunday, May 30th at 10am for some complimentary photos.  The model will be used to demonstrate posing to a group of photographers in my home studio.  Please email me immediately at julie@uppercasephotography.com if you anticipate having a newborn between that age range on May 30th. If you know of someone who might be interested, please pass along this information.

And here’s the reason I am in need of a model on such short notice….My new little niece, Miss J, arrived three weeks early and will now be too old to be my newborn model.  Since she’s so very adorable, I guess we’ll forgive her. :)

My last post was all about the girls, so this time it’s the boys’ turn.  And, oh boy, have I had the pleasure of photographing some of the cutest little fellas around recently.

Mr. C is one!  I can’t believe this precious little guy has celebrated his first birthday already.  I always love having his expressive little face and big blue eyes in front of my camera.

Growing | Winston Salem Children’s Photographer

Seems like everyone and everything at our house is growing!  We spent a good part of Saturday taking down the crib and playing “musical bedrooms” at our house.  Each of the girls moved to a different bedroom and Stella moved into a big girl bed for the first time.  A little bittersweet, but fun to see them growing and changing.  They each picked new bedding for their new rooms.  Stella wanted stripes and Claire wanted polka dots…..and Grace, well let’s just say her new bedding is so bright you gotta wear shades!  The rooms aren’t photo worthy just yet as moving three closets full of girls clothes, shoes, and accessories is quite the shore.  But I can share a few of the new clothes filling those closets.  We had fun recently shooting a new line for Giraffikiki Kidz.  The girls just loved these outfits and headbands and I loved them too for their comfort, stay put headbands and just overall adorableness.  I hear that items for boys and babies have been added to the new line so be sure to use the link above to check them out.  Here are the girls modeling a few of their new items:

winstonsalemchildphotographer02

winstonsalemchildrensphotographer031

winstonsalemphotographer012

There something besides girls growing around our house as well…a garden!  Our middle daughter Claire wanted nothing for her birthday except her very own garden.  Thanks to her dad and papa, there is now a small but quite spiffy garden in our backyard.  I am hoping to follow the progress of the garden through the summer in photos.  These were taken on planting day:

garden1blog

We started the garden with carrots, broccoli and lettuce which are all sprouting up nicely now.  We hope to be adding tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and squash soon.  *Disclaimer* We are not expert gardeners (read: We have no real idea what we are doing!) so if you spot something in these photos that breaks all sorts of proper gardening rules, please pardon our ignorance.  You’d never know that I grew up with parents who grew all kinds of things in our backyard every summer.  Mom and Dad, I am really wishing now I had paid more attention back then!  But we are finding our way and having lots of fun doing so.  Stay tuned for more garden updates in the future and lots of recent outdoor sessions on the blog very soon!

Scheduling Reminders:

*I am currently booking July and August for both beach and local sessions.  Please email me for details and availability.  Even when my schedule is booked, I try to accommodate maternity and newborn sessions if possible, so please email regarding booking a session.

*I am still offering a special deal for those who prebook their newborn session before Mother’s Day (due date can be any time in 2010.)  Check out the details here and email me for more information.

Sleeping Beauties | Winston Salem Newborn Photographer

I share my own newborn work on my blog all the time, but today I want to share the work of some other talented newborn photographers.  In October of 2009, I had the pleasure of traveling to Hawaii and learning more about the art of newborn photography from some of the best, Kelley Ryden and Tracy Raver.  The experience was invaluable to me and I will be forever grateful to them for so openly sharing their expertise in a unique and hands-on type  atmosphere.  There are so many factors that go into shaping a photographer into who they are to become, but I know these ladies helped shape who I am as a photographer today, especially with my favorite little newborn subjects.

Kelley and Tracy had the honor of being interviewed on the Today Show this morning, sharing with the public about their newborn work.   You can view their interview here and see a slideshow of their newborn work here.  They have also just published a book titled, Sleeping Beauties.

It is so exciting to see newborn photography getting such national recognition, even though for me the real reward is in each baby that I hold, cuddle and create beautiful photographs for their family.

Newborn Love | Winston Salem, Greensboro Newborn Photographer

We all know that newborns are some of my favorite little subjects.  There is nothing sweeter than spending time photographing all the wonder of a brand new baby.  In celebration of all the “newness” sprouting up all around, I am offering newborn special to 2010 babies who are prebooked for their newborn session.  Here are the details:

From now until Mother’s Day (May 9th) if you prebook your newborn session due at any time in 2010 and pay your session fee, you will receive a complimentary set of 25 custom birth announcements after your new arrival’s newborn session.  This offer is for anyone due at any time in 2010 as long as they prebook by May 9th (and it’s never to early in your pregnancy to prebook the newborn session!)  The offer is for new bookings only, not those who have already paid for their newborn session and it may not be combined with any other coupons, specials, freebies, etc.

So how do you prebook a newborn session when you don’t know exactly when your little one is arriving?  When you pay your session fee, I place your due date on my calendar and ask you to contact me the day you return home from the hospital with your new little bundle.  I then work your newborn session into my schedule before the baby is 14 days old.

So if you are expecting sometime this year and have been considering an Uppercase newborn session, now is the time to book.  If you know someone who is expecting this year, pass along the link to this blog post so they may book a session for their expected arrival and receive 25 custom press-printed birth announcements.

And of course I couldn’t post a newborn special without a few of my most recent newborn shots.
