Smile for the Camera

Yesterday, I had the most smiley newborn ever in the studio.  It is pretty rare for me to capture a newborn smile, so it’s pretty cool if I get ONE during a session.  But I must have had seven or eight photos of this little beauty with a huge smile on her face!   It think it’s just impossible to see a newborn smiling and it not bring a smile to your face…so here are a few reasons for you to smile today (along with a few nonsmiling ones just for variety sake :) ).  Meet Emory…

And you didn’t think you were going to make it through this post without pictures of my girls in the snow, did you?  Of course I must share them enjoying what little bit of snow we had.  Most of it has already melted away…but they enjoyed it for a little while this morning.

Thanks to everyone who’s contacted my for session dates since the last post.  I must have booked 6 or 7 sessions just in the past few days.  I look forward to seeing all of you this spring!

January 21, 2009 - 11:20 pm Nancy Gee - Little Emory is my grandbaby and we think she is a very happy little baby--she knows she is loved!! Love your pictures of her --they are very special--naked babies are so cute!! Love the one with parents holding her in their arms.

The Best Laid Plans…

Sometimes when sessions don’t go as planned, people apologize to me for whatever is going awry–fussy kids, running late, etc.  So tonight I thought I would let you know that even with my own kids–things never go “as planned.”  I have had this weekend set aside for taking pictures of my youngest, Stella, to mark her 18 months milestone.  I knew we were planning to travel to Raleigh to see the Wolfpack play so I would not be booking other sessions–a perfect time to focus on my little girl.  I had this idea to do the session in a laundromat (this is where my husband begins to think I am crazy).  I scope out a local landromat and decide that it will have the best natural light and hopefully be less crowded early in the day.  So on Saturday we get up and brave the 9 degree weather to head over to the laundromat and take pictures of Stella before heading to Raleigh (this is where my husband thinks I’m REALLY crazy).  Well of course it didn’t work out like I planned.  There were already quite a few people doing laundry at 8:45am–better them than me!  We had the other girls with us and they wanted to play on a playspace (you know like at McDonald’s) that was in the laundromat–did you know that laundromats have these things because I didn’t.  Well, of course Stella only wanted to play on it too.  After about 20 minutes of trying to convince her that playing with me and my camera would be more fun, I gave up.  We bundled everyone back up and headed back to the car with only a few photos to show for our trouble.

stellablog1

Thankfully, the trip to Raleigh was great and we enjoyed seeing the Wolfpack win in overtime against Georgia Tech.  They always win when we take the girls down to the game–we apparently should do it more often.  I tell Tory that after all the trouble it takes to travel with them to Raleigh and make it through the entire game, it would just be cruel and unusual punishment for them to lose.  So, thankfully, they won–Go Pack!

This evening, I decided that we would take Stella down to the studio and try again for some pictures of her.  At first things were going well, she was looking at me and smiling.

img_0882blog

Just a couple of minutes after the above photo was taken, she stood up on the stool she was sitting on.  It toppled over and she fell.  There was blood and a swollen lip and some big crocodile tears.  Janet, if you’re out there reading, I immediately thought of you and your sweet boy during his one year session. :)  So did I stop there and call it a day–nope (This is where my husband begins to think I am certifiably INSANE).  I put her in a tutu and we kept going, swollen lip and all.  She really wasn’t into after that, can’t blame her I guess.  This was about the best we managed after the accident.

stellablog3

At least maybe we’ll have a good story to tell her when she’s older.  So when things don’t go as planned for  your session–don’t worry.  I am a mom to three and unpredictability is the story of my life! :)

I have 5 sessions this week, so the blog should be hopping with new photos very soon!

On a different note–I am looking for upcoming high school seniors (Class of 2010) interested in free photos from UpperCase Photography.  Do you know anyone with kids this age?  If so, let them know about this wonderful opportunity.  All they need to do is email me a recent snapshot of themselves and tell me a bit about themselves–where do they attend school and what kinds of activities are they involved in there.  This opportunity is open to all area high schools in Forsyth, Guilford and surrounding counties.  I will provide more details to those who email me!

January 19, 2009 - 11:23 pm Michelle - You just never know when that perfect kodak moment will turn up! All of the pics are "tutu' cute and what a great story! I'm glad things like that happen to other Moms, too. :-)

January 19, 2009 - 3:03 pm Kara Dail - That is HILARIOUS - that last shot is precious:)

Growing Up

Hold on to your hats–I’m going to share something other than a newborn! (although I LOVE newborns and hope to have some more to share soon :))

Remember my new little neice Kylie?  I shared her newborn session a while back with a shot of her lying on her daddy’s back under his tattoo of their last name.  Well, believe it or not Little Miss Kylie is now three months old.  She is an absolute doll and such a smiley little thing!  Here are a few from her three month session.

kyliemagaracithreemonths3blog

Daddy is a big Wake Forest fan.  She didn’t give us many smiles for this series.  Either she didn’t like us sticking her in towel-stuffed trash can or she’s a secret Wolfpack fan! :)

kylieblog2

Look at this sweet smile and then her cool baby trick–sticking her whole fist in her mouth!

kylieblog3

I also got to hang out with Mr. Charlie this week.  I had not seen him since his newborn session and he just recently celebrated his first birthday.  He’s changed a lot, to say the least!

charlieblog1

As is usual for his age, Charlie went through the whole toddler gamut of emotions during his session.  As witnessed above he smiled and laughed.  He also had a snack and talked to his “peeps” on the phone.

charlieblog2

Finally, as witnessed below, he tired of my antics.  I like to call these next two “the meltdown” and “the recovery.”

charlieblog3

I also want to update everyone on my schedule.  I am booking sessions for now through June 2009.  I will open up the rest of the year soon, but I want to get all my beach trips for the summer finalized first!  If you are interested in a session between now and June, please email me now.  Things are starting to fill up, especially those coveted weekend spots.  I just booked my last March weekend spot today.  I look forward to seeing so many of you this spring and summer and start shooting outside again–yay!

January 16, 2009 - 11:01 am Shannon Brenner - I love the "meltdown" and the "recovery"! Too cute!!!

Brand New

I had a chance this week to test out my brand new camera on some equally brand new babies.  Oh how I love photographing sweet, tiny newborns.  Nevermind the marathon length sessions and inevitable pee and poo, there is just something magical about a peacefully sleeping newborn.

Meet Liam.  He is about 2 weeks old in these photos.  I just love his little wrinkled brow!

liamblog1

His sweet parents were, of course, so smitten with little Liam.

liamblog2

Liam added the dangling foot to this shot all on his own…a nice touch I think.

liamblog3

Meet Kaylee.  She is 1.5 weeks old in these photos and was quite the little sleeper.

kayleeblog1

kayleeblog2

Kaylee’s dad was soooo good with her.  He could just touch her or stroke her head and she would settle right down–a daddy’s girl already!

kayleeblog3

Since Kaylee was such a sleepy little thing, I decided to try a shot I have been wanting to do for a while.  I had tried it with one other newborn and didn’t get it quite right, but I thought I had learned from my previous mistakes.  We got Kaylee all positioned and her parents lifted the fabric from both sides.  At that exact moment she opened her little eyes and looked right at me!  I had imagined her sleeping in this photo, but I am mezmorized by her eye contact.

kayleeblog4

Meet Ansley.  She is 1 week old in these photos.   Her big brother Riley is one of my very favorites subjects and today he brought his new baby sister to meet me!  Riley was sooo good with her already.  In this first photo below, Ansley had started crying and Riley was trying to help by singing (loudly!) to her. :)

ansleyblog1

Check out his chubby little toddler fingers holding on to her in the photo below…just melts my heart!

ansleyblog2

Ansley’s mom brought a beautiful handmade blanket and bonnet that she had found at the Autumn Leaves Festival last fall.

I hope we will all get to watch these sweet little cuties grow during their first year.  It is so much fun to see their personalities develop and watch them grow up.  As we all know, it happens way too fast!

Oh Happy Day!

So there is a new addition in the Wagoner household.  No it’s not a kid or a dog–we have plenty of those already!  My new camera finally arrived today!  I am so in love–it’s even better than Guitar Hero!!  Here’s how our afternoon went.  I put the little kiddos down for a nap at 1pm.  Shortly thereafter Mr. UPS man arrived with my brand new “baby.”  I tore into that box like it was Christmas morning and found the battery and charger.  I knew that if I started charging it now it would be ready by the time one of the kids woke from their nap.  Stella is always up before Claire (our little sleepy bug) so she was my first victim subject.  Now she usually gets to watch a Baby Einstein video after her nap so I had to entice her over to the door somehow where there was better light for photographing.  I decided to use her very favorite thing right now–the Itsy Bitsy Spider.  So here is Stella doing the Itsy Bitsy Spider.

blog1

Are you catching all these motions here…up the water spout, down came the rain…

blog22

It only took a couple of times of the song for her to figure out I was taking her picture and then she ditched me for Baby Einstein.  I was forced to watch Winston wait at the door for Grace to get off the bus.

blog4

Grace finally gets off the bus and comes running into the house all happy and giddy.  She LOVES to ride the bus (me, I’m not as thrilled about it :) )  She only lets me snap a couple before she is off to do her homework.  In the meantime Claire wakes from her nap.  Now if you know Claire, you know that you don’t bother her for a few minutes when she wakes up.  She had one thing on her mind and it wasn’t photos–as shown below it was Chocolate Chip muffins. All three of the kids just love those little muffins.

blog3

So there, a typical afternoon at our house.   For those of you photographers out there, it was basically dark outside this afternoon with all the rain and clouds.  These photos were taken at ISO4000–yep, that’s three zeros after the 4, sweet!

I can’t wait to have a few sessions with the new camera.  I have four sessions between now and Sunday so I should get my fill!

Hope you are all having a great week!

January 7, 2009 - 12:31 pm Kaitlyn - I can't wait to see it in action!

January 7, 2009 - 12:13 pm Heather Watson - JULIE! I can't imagine that your photos could be more beautiful than they already are....I think you could shoot on a disposable camera and they would be beautiful. We LOVED our pictures...you captured them perfectly! Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you (and your new addition) this year!

January 7, 2009 - 9:53 am aturner - Those look awesome - I know you are just tickled! I cannot believe you shot those at ISO 4000 & no "graininess"! I know you are excited about how your year has started out so far!

New Products

Well, I think all the “bumps in the road” have been ironed out in switching the website and blog over.  I did have a few email glitches, so if you sent me an email and I haven’t responded, please resend the email.

Since some people may not have seen some new product offerings on the old blog I am moving them over to the new one.  I will be offering 12 month photos calendars (one pic for each month).  They will come with a clear frame so you can display the appropriate month on a desk or shelf.  Makes a great gift!  Here are a few samples.

The kids are headed back to school on Monday and I am about ready to be back into our normal routine, although the holidays were wonderful.  As we get back into our routine, I am hoping to get started on my New Year’s resolution of Yoga on the Wii fit three times a week–it will be better for me than Guitar Hero I think!  What are your New Year’s Resolutions–I’d love to hear them.  In addition to the Yoga, I am hoping to take more spontaneous snapshots of the kids, be more organized, and stop working so much at night (as I type this at 10pm on a Saturday night.)  :)

January 4, 2009 - 4:13 pm Sister - I love the new LOOK!! Greg even commented about how nice it looked. So, it must be "FAB". I have not made a resolution for fear of failing yet again (Ha!) Keep up the GREAT work!! Love Ya!! Sis
