I have been blessed with the opportunity to photograph quite a few sets of newborn twins recently. Posing and capturing twin newborns is both amazing and challenging. I am always in awe of how content twins are to be together. After keeping close quarters for nine months, they are perfectly content to snuggle together for their portrait session.
Meet Mr. C and Miss R….so happy together:
Summer Sessions Are Booking
The weather has warmed and school is almost out…it’s time for summer! If you are interested in a summer portrait session please contact me now at julie@uppercasephotography.com. I have limited availability during June, July and August and would love to discuss creating a carefree summer session experience with you.
Newborns
My calendar is filling with those expecting summer babies! While I feel for these expectant mommies who are braving the heat at the end of their pregnancies, I am looking forward to meeting all of your new bundles this summer. The best time to book your newborn session is BEFORE your baby’s arrival. If you are due any time in 2011 or early 2012, email me for details about prebooking your newborn session at julie@uppercasephotography.com.
Maternity Sessions
Recently I offered a special in honor of pregnancy awareness month giving a complimentary mini maternity session with a prebooked newborn session. I have had several emails disappointed to have missed the chance for their mini maternity session. If you are due between now and the end of September and would like to take advantage of the special, please email me for details at julie@uppercasephotography.com. I love photographing expectant moms and would be happy to extend the special to a very limited number of clients!

I have had the pleasure of photographing Mr. L many times during his first year. So when it came time for the one year session, I found it a bit bittersweet. It has been such a joy to watch him grow from a tiny newborn sleeping peacefully on a scale to a big handsome boy. I am going to miss seeing him every few months!
Mr. L’s one year session featured several hats….none of which he kept on his head more than a few seconds at a time. What do you do when a baby keeps removing their adorable little hat? Well, turn it into a fun game of peek-a-boo of course.
Hats off to a great year, Mr. L. It has been amazing watching you grow.
The babies I photograph tend to stay frozen in my mind as I saw them last. Newborns stay fresh, curly sleepy little bundles just like the images I captured. So, in my mind, Baby B was still this precious little bundle seen here. Then when he arrived at my studio a few weeks ago for his six month session, I squealed with delight at how much he had grown! One thing had remained the same though, that adorable, irresistible smile!
Mr. B’s parents requested an urban session and it was so much fun! They dressed perfectly and we really had a great time mixing the urban scene with their sweet little family.
I’m already looking forward to Mr. B’s one year session in the fall. But for now, he’ll be frozen in my mind as an adorable little smiling, fuzzy haired six month cutie!
Now Booking Summer Sessions
I am now booking sessions for June, July and August. Please email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com for details about how to book your session.

Pregnancy Awareness Month
Did you know that May is Pregnancy Awareness Month? To help celebrate the beauty of pregnancy, anyone who prebooks their newborn session before the end of May will receive a mini studio maternity session at no charge! Your due date does NOT have to be in May, you just have to prebook and pay for your newborn session by the end of the month. Please email me for details at julie@uppercasephotography.com.
Want to hear something funny? The first time I photographed the little guy featured in the session below he was three months old and we were in my playroom. I was literally stepping around dollhouses and dressup clothes to take the images. :) We all have to start somewhere, right? His family has continued to return for portraits and I was thrilled to capture Mr. R’s first year and then his sister Ms. A’s first year as well. We went from the playroom to my basement studio and now most recently to my downtown studio (along with many outdoor locations over the years.) I can honestly say that sessions with this family are like meeting up with old friends. We chat, we laugh, we take pictures and we are all a bit sad when it’s over and time to go home.
I find it truly an honor that this family, and other families, continue to trust me to capture their most important memories. I love watching you grow in front of my lens and I thank you for being a part of Uppercase Photography’s growth over the years.
My little buddies, Mr. R and Ms. A

In March, I was a part of a workshop that focused on family photography. After the workshop, I wanted to practice a bit with a couple of families and put out a casting call on my blog. When Julie contacted me, she let me know right away that her family wasn’t quite what I was looking for as her kids were a bit younger than requested. In the email, she told me that she was expecting twins very soon and that she knew their family was going to change forever. She said she really just wanted to capture them one last time as they were as a family of four. Julie had me at that sentence and we arranged a time to meet for a mini session. :) My goal was to capture their relationship together before they became a new family of six overnight. Here are a few images from the session:
At 37 weeks pregnant with twins, Julie walked so far through horse pastures and lay on the ground to snuggle her boys….all with ease and a smile on her face to capture her love for her boys. I couldn’t let her leave without offering to do what I do best…capture the babies.
So just two weeks later the twins came to the studio for their own time to shine:
A special thanks so Lina for her help in working together to capture this adorable boy/girl duo. I know they will be treasured by what is now a happy family of six.

Can you believe it is May? I can hardly believe it. I had a long list of things I wanted to accomplish during the “slower season” of January and February. Now somehow May has arrived, flowers are blooming, outdoor sessions and newborns are in full swing….and my list did not get accomplished. Guess there is always next January! In the meantime I am enjoying the beautiful weather and the beautiful sessions that spring brings.
A couple of clients stopped by to pick up their orders at the studio today and it reminded me to share these sweet faces on the blog. Both of these adorable boys are at a great age for portraits during the first year…sitting up but not yet mobile.
Mr. B had such a infectious smile that could truly light up a room.
His mom took home a beautiful wood-mounted collage of this today…love it!
And this Mr. B just has the most awesome head of hair and such a sweet, gentle spirit.
I know if can be hard for moms to jump in front of the camera with their little ones, but what mom wouldn’t cherish an image like this?
Speaking of Moms, I have a few spots left for Mommy & Me Mini Sessions on Tuesday, May 10th and Friday, May 13th. Digital files and prints will be back in time for Father’s Day gifts. Email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com for details.
Also, with Mother’s Day right around the corner, I am proud to be a part of Triad Mom’s on Main’s Mother of the Year Contest. The nominations are in and Triad Mom’s on Main has chosen ten very deserving finalists for “Mother of the Year.” You can read more about them HERE and vote for your favorite. One deserving winner will receive a $400 gift certificate to Uppercase Photography and many other wonderful prizes!
I am continuing to book sessions for May, June, July and August. I have just a couple of spots remaining at the end of May. Please email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com if you’d like to learn more about booking a session. Maternity sessions are best booked early and shot between 32-36 weeks. Newborn sessions are best booked before your baby is born so the session can occur before your newborn is two weeks of age. All other sessions are booking a few weeks in advance for weekday spots and a few months in advance for limited weekend availability. Thanks so much for your support of Uppercase Photography and your taste in fine portraiture!
Mommy and Me Mini Sessions at the studio were so much fun a couple of weeks ago! I have decided to open up a couple more dates on my calendar for more Mommy & Me Minis. I will be booking more minis on Tuesday, May 10th and Friday, May 13th with limited spots available throughout the day. Please email me for details. Prints and digital files will be ready in time for Father’s Day gifts!
I am also continuing to book full sessions for the summer. The calendar is filling up so email me soon if you want to book a session in May, June, July or August.
And speaking of mommies….I am thrilled to share such a beautiful mommy-to-be with you today. If all goes as planned, she is experiencing labor today and will soon meet her new daughter. If you get to see these on the blog today Mrs. M, I hope they make you smile. You are one of the most beautiful maternity models I have ever had the pleasure of photographing and I can’t wait to meet baby K very soon!
Sometimes people will ask me if it ever becomes “old news” seeing so many brand new babies. The answer is definitely no! Every single newborn I have the pleasure of capturing brings me new joy. I love that moment when their parents hand them over to me at the beginning of the session and I take them in and really look at them. Anyone who says all newborn looks the same obviously doesn’t spend time photographing them. They are each unique…and they each bring a unique joy.
Joy is the perfect word to describe my session with Miss S. I really felt her parents were taking time to really enjoy her as a brand new life. Her entire session was just peaceful and full of joy.
Meet Miss S.
Welcome to the world Miss S. and may you always bring joy.
Baby L’s mommy and I bonded instantly over our mutual love for the NCSU Wolfpack. It can be tough being a Wolfpack fan so we have to band together when we can! Baby L may be a little Wolfpacker in the making, but she is also surrounded by a little fan club herself. She has so many family members just thrilled by her arrival and ready to surround her with love. Such a lucky little one!
Meet Miss L.

Spring is finally arriving and outdoor sessions have begun! If you are interested in a session in May, June, July or August please email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com
Because the Snow Babies Special for winter newborns was such a success, I am extending the special to include babies with April and May due dates. If you are due in April or May and prebook your newborn session before your baby’s arrival, your entire session fee is credited towards your purchase of prints/products. Please email me for details.
I’ve never thought of myself as hilarious but maybe I need just the right audience. I would definitely put Mr. B on the front row of my first comedy tour, that’s for sure.
All Uppercase Photography sessions include a pre-session consultation. We chat, either in person or via phone, about the all things related to the session…location, clothing, ideas, the personalities of my little subjects, etc. During the consultation for Mr. B’s session, his mom said that she was not expecting him to give tons of smiles. She mentioned that he is more reserved around people outside of his “inner circle” and he might take a bit to warm up. I work with lots of babies and children with all sorts of different personalities, so a more reserved baby sounded like no problem at all. I love a good serious face in portraits anyway.
But on session day Mr. B had other plans. He started grinning the moment he walked into the studio and I really don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more smiley baby than he was that day. I found myself laughing right along with him as we captured smile after smile. Towards the end of the session, I even took out a loud squeaky toy to “surprise” Mr. B into a more serious expression so we wouldn’t have a finished gallery with only smiles.
I hope his darling little smile brightens your afternoon and brings a smile to your face as well.
I look forward to seeing Mr. B and his whole family at Topsail Beach for a session this summer. Due to the popularity of this summer’s Topsail Beach sessions, I have opened another weekend for beach sessions. I have one spot remaining for a session at Topsail Beach on Labor Day weekend. If you are interested in grabbing that spot before it’s gone, please email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com.
I am also booking local sessions for May-August. Email me for details.
And finally, because the Snow Babies Special for winter newborns was such a success, I am extending the special to include babies with April and May due dates. If you are due in April or May and prebook your newborn session before your babies arrival, your entire session fee is credited towards your purchase of prints/products. Please email me for details.
