Bloom. | Greensboro Newborn Photographer

“Every soul is to be cherished, every flower is to bloom.” ~Alice Walker

It was such a sweet surprise on sweet baby S’s session day when we walked out to capture a few shots of her outside and found wildflowers blooming in my little natural area.  I have never seen them there before and it was like they arrived just for this sweet little blossom.

Isn’t is wonderful that even peeling skin is adorable on a brand new baby.  It’s just another sign of how fresh and new they are.

She is Love | Greensboro Newborn Baby Photographer

I was working on a birth announcement for this baby girl at the studio recently and listening to Pandora.  The Parachute song “She is Love” came on and I smiled.  Isn’t it wonderful how a baby is such a representation of love.  Sweet baby L is the first baby for a pair of high school sweethearts who have grown more and more in love over the past 10 years and for that, she is love.  Baby L is named in honor of a grandmother whom she never had a chance to meet and for that, she is love.  I know Miss L will show her parents the meaning of love over and over again as she grows….all babies do.

Meet Miss L, because I know you will love her too.

greensborobabyphotographer01

greensborobabyphotographer06

Butterflies have a special meaning for her family and it was another representation of love to use one in her images.

Another Round | Greensboro Newborn Photographer

In February of 2010 I had the pleasure of photographing this sweet little newborn boy, baby J

greensboronewbornphotographer081

Recently, I received a phone call from his mother saying they had been blessed with a baby girl as well and could I squeeze in a newborn session for her.  I love when clients are pleased with their Uppercase Photography experience and return for more portraits!  So of course, it was my pleasure to meet their newest addition and see how much Baby J had grown.

greensboronewbornphotographer021

He’s even cuter as a toddler, huh?  And his sister Baby N was a perfect little angel.

A Double Dose of Happiness | Greensboro Newborn Photographer

It has been such a busy week preparing for vacation, but I couldn’t leave without giving you something beautiful to see on the blog while I am away.  And this post will definitely give you a double dose of happiness! I had dinner with a friend last week and she asked me how I am photographing so many twins recently.  I said I’m not sure but I absolutely love it (and I jokingly told her to beware of drinking the Triad water…it seems to produce multiples :) )  Twins are always a fun challenge, so much thanks goes to Lina for joining me in capturing these beautiful babies.

Meet C and L, twin girls who were about 5 pounds each and 10 days old on session day.  They were a dream to photograph both outside and inside the studio.

Uncommon Beauty | Winston Salem Newborn Photographer

Did you know that less than 2% of the population has red hair?  I didn’t realize the percentage was that small until I googled it.  That does help explain why it is so exciting when I see gorgeous red hair walk into my studio…it is such an uncommon beauty!  This family arrived with TWO beautiful red heads who were so eager and willing to pose with their adorable new addition to the family.

winstonsalemnewbornphotographer01

winstonsalemnewbornphotographer02

I can’t really tell yet if Baby H is going to have that same uncommonly beautiful red hair.  Babies hair and eye color tend to change so much during those first few months.   I could certainly tell, though, that he was going to be a wonderful third child…laid back, easy going, and fitting right in with a busy family.

Baby Love | Winston Salem Newborn Photographer, Greensboro Baby Photographer

Sometimes I wonder if my clients know how I fall a little in love with their families.  I am blessed to photograph the most awesome families and this one was certainly no exception.  I have been blessed with lots of newborn twins to photograph this year and their families always hold an extra special place in my heart.  When twins spend a little time in the NICU like this tiny brother/sister pair, I find myself anxious to receive updates on how they are doing.  I end up almost as excited as the family when they are given a release date.  I remember so well receiving an email from G and S’s mommy saying that one of them would be coming home and the other would remain in the NICU just a bit longer…and then receiving an ecstatic email later that day that both babies were allowed to go home together!  I could feel her joy and did a little happy dance myself!  They were three weeks old and came in for their session right away, bringing along their rockstar big brother for a few sibling images as well.  Big brother L was 10 years old and absolutely amazing with his new siblings.  Twins bring twice the love and twice the fun…but they also bring twice the challenge, which is why I am so thankful to Lina for joining me in capturing these images.

Meet Big brother L and his new brother and sister, G and S:

Stuck Like Glue | Winston Salem Photographer

To tell the story of this session, I actually have to start at the end.  These two boys, ages one year and three, were so sweet and adorable.  But like any young boys, by the end of the session they were starting to get tired of the photo process.  So in an attempt to get them to sit close enough together I took the three year old’s hand and put it behind his brother and said “Here, pretend that hand is stuck there like glue.”  We both looked at each other and I could see in his eyes that I had met a Sugarland fan.  You see, my daughter had been finishing up a school production and the final number in the play was Sugarland’s Stuck Like Glue. We’d been singing the song around the house for weeks and I could tell by the look on this three year old’s face that he knew the song as well.  I sang it for him as we got the shots we needed and it was just that little connection we needed to finish up the session with laughs and giggles as planned.  I love it when those little connections happen during a session!

And “stuck like glue” describes this family just perfectly.  They were so happy and loving together and just shined in front of my lens.  This was truly one of my favorite sessions of the year.  The entire process was such a pleasure, from meeting before the session to discuss locations and outfits to helping them choose the perfect frames and canvases for their prints.  It fills my heart to know that even though one day far away this family may be scattered about with boys off to college or making lives of their own….they will forever have these images to cherish the time when they were all very happily “stuck like glue.”

All That is Good | Winston Salem Newborn, Baby Photographer

When watching the news, it’s easy to see a world filled with violence and despair and to wonder if there really is any good left in the world.  That’s one of the many reasons I consider myself so lucky.  My job allows me to spend my days witnessing all the goodness and love that the world has to offer.  Fresh new babies are so pure and innocent, and fresh new parents are just discovering that their heart is more filled than they could ever imagine.  And lucky me, I get to translate all that beauty and love into images.

You may remember this gorgeous couple from their maternity session.  They are such a beautiful family both inside and out and it was such a pleasure to capture their excitement as they awaited the arrival of Baby K.  It was even more exciting to capture their new little love and a brand new family of three.

Full Circle | Greensboro Baby Photographer

One of my goals this year has been to provide my clients with a full experience from start to finish.  Let’s face it, you have so many choices these days when it comes to photographers.  I want my clients to feel that they are leaving my studio with both the highest quality in portraits and the feeling of a great experience.  This session was one of those where I really feel like I met my goal.  Baby K’s mom and I started discussing clothing options months before the session…short emails here and there when I saw something cute on etsy or she was shopping for her sweet girl.  As the session drew near, we were both so excited about the planning we had done.  As luck would have it, it was super cold and yucky on her planned session date and we had to reschedule.  But the reschedule date turned out perfectly and gave just enough time for the field of yellow wildflowers to be in full bloom.  We had such a good time celebrating Baby K’s first year coming to a close that evening and admiring how far she has come…from a little NICU baby to the chubbiest little thighs and cheeks ever!

After the session, the planning was over but there was still much to be done for Baby K’s session.  As I prepared each of her images for viewing, it was like reliving the fun once again.  Once all the images were prepared, it was time for K’s family to relive the fun as well.  At the in studio ordering session, we watched a slideshow of all the images set to music (don’t worry, tissues are always nearby for this event!)  Then we reviewed printed proofs of all the images.  Much time was spent sorting and arranging our favorites, choosing frames, albums, digital files, etc.  We left the ordering session excited to see many of these images framed and displayed.

I spent much of the day yesterday working on making Baby K’s order complete.  Once again, I relived all the fun as I created album pages and ordered frames (some of them bright yellow to match the flowers!)  Soon, it will all come full circle when I package all the wonderful goodies and send them on their way to adorn K’s home.  The full experience will be complete and it leaves me feeling fulfilled and happy…something just burning a disc of images could never really do on it’s own.  I hope the same is true of the wonderful family who will receive and treasure these images.  Thank you, baby K’s family, for the pleasure of watching her grow..chubby little thighs and all.
