Can you believe 2012 has already arrived? It’s going to be a great year. I love a new start…new possibilities… new dreams to dream… fresh new faces to capture.
These adorable little faces were the very first newborn boy and girl captured by Uppercase Photography in 2012. They were such perfect little models!
Be on the lookout for a fresh new look for Uppercase Photography coming soon! But in the meantime, I have a little unfinished business that I am excited to make a reality. A while back I mentioned on my facebook page that when I reached 1000 “likes” we would celebrate with a giveaway. The 1000 like mark came and passed right in the middle of the crazy busy fall season and I could do little more than try to keep afloat amidst all the work. Now is the time to celebrate that achievement a giveaway!
One lucky recipient will enjoy an Uppercase Photography session with digital files on disc (over $1000 value.) The complimentary session must take place before March 31st (unless the winner is expecting a newborn with a due date later in the year and is interested in a newborn session.)
All entrants must do the following:
1. Leave a comment on this blog post.
2. Make sure you have “liked” the Uppercase Photography Facebook page.
3. Share this blog post on your facebook page by clicking the small blue facebook share button at the beginning of the post to let others know about this great opportunity from Uppercase Photography.
Once all three steps are completed you are entered to win the full session with digital files. Entries will be accepted until midnight on Wednesday, January 11th and the winner will be randomly selected and announced January 12th here on the blog. Best of luck and who knows, if we received a large number of entries I may be inclined to choose more than one winner!

This couldn’t be a more perfect session to share right here at the holidays! I remember being on the phone with this mommy-to-be while walking around the photo location in search of each other. As soon as I spotted her, I knew this was going to be such a gorgeous session. Beautiful dark hair framing her face, porcelain skin, the perfect red dress and boots….not to mention an adorable baby bump and an equally adorable hubby. :) This session was shot after the leaves had fallen from the trees and the signs of winter were setting in, but no worries because the light and the field were warm and golden.
As we were shooting, I asked them if they had decided on a name for their baby girl. Her name? Winter. How perfect. I just received word as my weekend began that baby Winter has made her arrival. I am so excited to meet her this week and I’m sure I’ll be sharing her newborn images as well, but until then…enjoy waiting for winter:
Scheduling Updates:
I am finishing up holiday orders and waiting to meet several other sweet babies due right around the holidays. Otherwise, I will be spending as much time as possible away from the studio so I may celebrate with my family. I will return to the studio on January 3rd.
I am currently booking sessions for January through March 2012. If you are expecting during that time period, email me for details about the Snow Babies Special…a great deal for winter newborns!

I’ve been neglecting the blog due to all the many tasks that accompany the busy season, but what better way to bring this blog back to life than with not one, not two but THREE beautiful babies. When I first corresponded with the M family about capturing the triplets they were expecting, it was obvious from the very beginning that they were doing their “homework” and choosing an experienced newborn photographer who they felt could handle the task of three newborn babies. We discussed in detail my previous work with multiples and my specialization in newborns. It was a thrill and an honor when they decided upon Uppercase Photography to capture their babies. Then came the task of waiting…..waiting for their arrival was like waiting for Christmas morning. Every week or two I would check in with the family to see how things were going. The M family were so blessed that mom carried the babies past 30 weeks and all three of the little miracles were healthy. After only two weeks in the NICU, everyone was at home and ready for their Uppercase debut!
Thank goodness, Lina Jarmond of Lina Jarmond Photography was able to lend a hand during this session. These images could not have been captured without her! I had prepared myself for a marathon session to capture great images of the babies individually and together. I was ready! The session, however, was very typical in length to other newborn sessions and the babies were so so good to us that day.
It is hard for me to even explain what a joy it was to hold then, soothe them, pose them and capture their beauty. It was nothing short of amazing, but I’ll just let the images from their session speak to just how amazing these triplets are…..meet baby A, baby B and baby C
Thank you, M family, for allowing me to be a part of such a special time for your family. I look forward to watching your tiny miracles grow.
Scheduling Updates:
I have no openings for the remainder of 2011. Amazingly, I have several newborns due on or right around Christmas and I look forward to capturing those babies and spending some quality time with my own family during the holidays.

So, have you missed me much? Ok, maybe not me but certainly the adorable babies that are featured on my blog. I’ve been so busy with sessions recently that I haven’t had a lot of time to blog. Today, however, I decided I just had to take a few moments and share more sweet baby images with you.
Baby R’s session just happened to be scheduled on the same day as the first NCSU Wolfpack football game of the season (yes, I am that far behind in blogging sessions!) I had plans of shooting her session in the morning and then heading to Raleigh for a “date night” at the game with my hubby. When I opened the door of the studio to see Baby R’s daddy sporting his Wolfpack t-shirt, I knew it was going to be a great session….and it was.
Meet Miss R….the Wolfpack’s sweetest new fan.
UPDATES:
I am all booked up for 2011 sessions, with the exception of newborns. If you are due in November or December and are interested in a newborn session, please email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com
I am now accepting 2012 appointments for January-March. Please email me for details.
Are you expecting this winter? Luck you! The Snow Babies Special is back. Please email me for the great savings you can enjoy when booking a newborn session for your winter baby (January and February due dates.)
New York was wonderful, but it’s great to be back to a more peaceful Winston Salem and ready to share more sessions with you. I think peaceful describes this baby girl perfectly. She was so at ease during our session and slept so peacefully the entire time. It was such a pleasure to spend time with her when she was brand new.
Meet Miss A:
As mentioned previously, my calendar is booked for 2011 with the exception of newborns and babies. Please contact me right away if you are due before the end of the year. I am also now accepting newborn and baby appointments for 2012. If you are due in 2012 or your child will need a 6 month or one year session between January and March, please email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com. I just purchased a brand new clean and shiny 2012 calendar and am ready to begin filling it up! (And yes, I still use a paper calendar. I am old school in that way and absolutely must be able to open it up in front of me and write while talking on the phone to clients. )

In general, newborn sessions needs to be completed within the first two weeks of a baby’s life. During those first few weeks they are curly, sleepy and have all those tiny newborn traits that should be captured before they slip away. After two weeks they start to wake to the world and don’t tolerate posing as well. However, there are always exceptions to the rule. Baby T spent the first few weeks of his life in the NICU, unable to come to the studio for a newborn session. Upon his release he came to the studio just as soon as possible and we photographed his session when he was six weeks old. I wasn’t sure how well he would tolerate the posing but was prepared to just capture whatever Baby T blessed us with that morning. Lucky for us, he is quite the stellar little model and quite the exception to the two week rule.
Meet Baby T
Despite his rock star session, Baby T and I encourage you to prebook your newborn session so your session can be sure to be included in my calendar before your baby is two weeks old. Most babies, especially those born at term, are NOT exceptions to the rule.
I think there is another unwritten photographer rule that you must be crazy to take a trip out of town during busy season. However, I am going make an exception to that one as well. I am slipping away for a few days to introduce my oldest daughter to the wonders of New York City, along with my parents and sisters. It is sure to be an amazing time in the Big Apple! I’ll be away from the studio Thursday through Sunday, returning on Monday for a session that I am so so excited to shoot. Please be patient as I will not have regular internet/email access. I will return all correspondence upon my return and I look forward to jumping back into the busiest time of year next week.

The last few weeks have been so busy and it’s really only beginning. “Busy season” for portrait photographers occurs September through November as we capture the gorgeousness that is fall in NC for holiday cards, gifts, etc. I am looking forward to seeing each of you that has scheduled a fall session and also the many expectant mommies and new babies that are on my calendar!
I am now officially closing my calendar to portrait sessions with the exception of maternity/newborns/babies for the remainder of 2011. I hope all of you that were interested were able to grab a spot! If not, I will begin a waiting list for fall family/child sessions. Please email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com to be placed on the waiting list. If someone has a change of plans and can’t make their scheduled session, I will contact clients on the waiting list to fill the open spot.
If you are expecting in 2011 or 2012 and would like to book a maternity or prebook your newborn session, please email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com.
My busy schedule means less time to update the blog, but I couldn’t come post a scheduling update without sharing one of the many beautiful babies I’ve met recently. I truly treasure my time spent with each and every baby that comes to my studio.
Meet Mr. C

Most of the time my job is to photograph newborn babies. I LOVE my job so much. I love creating just the perfect environment in my studio so that newborn babies drift off into a peaceful sleep while I pose them and capture all their newness. I never tire of it.
However, every summer I take a small break from newborn babies and invite families to have beach portraits taken on the North Carolina coast. Each year I look forward to capturing a select few families on the beach. There is just something about the beach atmosphere that makes it easy for families to relax and love one another in front of my lens. If I told you how easy it was to capture this beautiful family I am sharing today you wouldn’t believe me. Yes, there were all the usual technical challenges of lighting, focus, composition, etc. But the fun and the love was all provided for me by this beautiful family….I just had the privilege of being there to capture it.
These images make me happy and I know they make this family happy as well and will for many years to come. I hope they add a little sunshine and happiness to your day today too.
If you think Uppercase Photography beach images of your own family would make you happy as well, it’s never too early to be added to the list of those interested in 2012 beach sessions. Just email me at julie@uppercasephotography.com and ask to be added to the list. As soon as 2012 beach session dates are released, you will then be the first to know.
Scheduling Updates:
My calendar is now filled for September and October with the exception of newborns. I have a very limited number of November session spots remaining as well and will then close the calendar for the remainder of 2011. If you are interested in a fall session, please email me immediately to discuss reserving a spot. Once the final couple of spots are filled I will begin a waiting list for fall sessions in case of cancellations.
If you are expecting any time in 2011 or early 2012, now is the time to prebook your newborn session. Please email me for details about prebooking and the wonderful benefits you can receive by booking before your baby’s arrival.

I hope all of you had a chance to relax and enjoy those last moments of summer over the Labor Day weekend. I know I did and now I am gearing up for a busy, busy fall!
Before fall arrives to the blog, I have more summer sessions to share, including this little summertime arrival. I remember photographing this family’s maternity session on what I think was literally the hottest day of the summer. We were out in a field and it was hard for me to even take a deep breath the heat was so sweltering…and I wasn’t nearing the end of pregnancy! When baby A’s parents took that all in stride and still managed to look so happy about their new arrival, I knew they would be the kind of parents who were relaxed and just take things as they come. And they were just the same at her newborn session….just chuckling and not panicking when it took me 45 minutes and two feedings to get the first set of shots that I wanted.
But just look at her….she was worth every moment.
I noticed A’s sweet little dimples as soon as she came in the studio, but capturing them on camera was so difficult. Dimples don’t pop out when you are relaxed and sleeping! But as I was up close capturing all of little A’s beautiful baby details like fingers, toes, eyelashes, etc she gave a little smile that showed off her dimples. Luckily, I was quick enough to catch it…and now this image graces the cover of her newborn album.

I remember when this expectant mommy first contacted me regarding a maternity session. She explained how she was pregnant for the third and last time and how after two amazing little boys, she was expecting a baby girl. Her excitement was so palpable…the anticipation of one more little one to love….and this little one would bring hair bows, princesses, twirling dresses and ballet classes. With three girls of my own, I know that excitement well. It was clear during our conversation that my typical “mini maternity” session combined with a full newborn session just wasn’t going to do. We needed a full session to capture all this excitement, and full it was. It was full of summer tanned and towheaded little boys, candy treats, giggles and snuggles, sunshine yellow, and finger paints. But mostly, it was full of love.
When I was working on a wall display for this family after the session, I asked if they would like any text added to their collage. They chose “You are my Sunshine.” Very fitting, I think, and I can’t wait to introduce you to the little sunshine that was being anticipated in this maternity session…another post, another time.
